E949 Range Stack Detectors
E949 Range Stack Detectors
Range Stack Scintillator (RS)
- RS TDC
- Trigger Counters or T-counters
nominally define the fiducial acceptance. They are shorter than the
rest of the range stack counters, 20.2" (520mm) instead of
72"(1.82m). They are also only 1/4"(6.35 mm) thick instead of the
3/4"(1.905cm) for the rest of the RS. The T-counters are located at
a radial distance of 450mm.

- RS layers 2-19
- RS Layers 18-19 were replaced as part of the BVL upgrade (11/3/99-5/1/00)
- RS Layers 2-5 were replaced after we learned that we could get x2-3 more light and we had enough time to replace only L2-5.
- PMTs/electronics
- RS Monitor System
The RSSC's are straw tube chambers, operated in limited-streamer mode. The time resolution of
50 ps (after the time-stretcher-circuit) allows a z-determination ~1 cm. These chambers
have a factor of ~10 times less mass than the old ones.
