Medium Energy Group News.
Robert E. Chrien has formally retired--as of July 31, 1998.
The BNL Medium Energy group is now headed by Morgan May.
A new initiative for the Group is participation in the RHIC spin
physics experiment "PP2PP" originated by Wlodek Guryn.
Recent publications of the ME Group include contributions to the
following
The SNP Workshop: "The Story of Sigma Hypernuclei--A Modern Fable" by
R. E. Chrien (sigmastory.ps) and "Hypernuclear spectroscopy ....using
the NMS" (snp99.ps) by M. Youn.
Physical Review Letters 83 5238 (1999): "Sigma Hyperons in the Nucleus"
by S. Bart et al.
Physical Review Jan (2000): "Search for Double-Lambda Hypernuclei..."
by Khaustov et al.; "Evidence for Cascade Hypernuclear Production...."
by Khaustov et al.
In December 1999 a workshop at BNL was held as a memorial to Carl Dover.
Copies of the transparencies are available from Sid Kahana
(kahana@bnl.gov).
R. E. Chrien is now a member of the RHIC-AGS Users Group (UEC). The UEC
actions and minutes are available from the users information on the BNL
home page. A
summary of his view of the present situation and future
possibilities for AGS fixed-target nuclear physics experiments is
available. Experiments 930 (Hypernuclear gamma-rays measured with
the hyperball) and 931 (Weak decay studies with the NMS) are included
in the funding for FY2002, and are expected to run in March 2002.
The buttons on our home page colored in light blue indicate
revisions. The yellow buttons remain to be updated at the time of this
writing.---REC
