Linux Software Resources

The RedHat Linux distribution has been installed on the NUHEP linux workstations. The choice of using RedHat was two fold. First, it uses the Redhat Package Management tool (RPM) which allows for easy installation and upgradability of individual software packages. Second, a choice which is totally controversial, is that Redhat is a private domain group trying to turn a profit on packaging a public domain operating system. The idea being that one may get better support if Redhat is able to accomplish such a feat. (Note: The basic linux RedHat distribution is free when pulled off the net with no support.)

Besides the basic Redhat installation, several other software packages have been installed and are listed below. If there is a software package which you want installed, then send email to stephen.adler@bnl.gov with the request.
