Summary PHYSGI Meeting 4/4/94

                                                         B. Gibbard

Next meeting will be Monday, April 11, 11:30 - 12:00, in the ORANGE ROOM.

Major users for the week beginning 4/4/94 are expected to be:

        1) E881 (Hackenberg et al.) - Full out production, multiple data
                                       analysis jobs.

        2) E818 (Weygend et al.) - Multiple CPU bound partial wave anlysis
                                    jobs each of moderate duration.

        3) E891 (Longacre et al.) - Testing, not expected to involve more
than one CPU intensive job at a time.

        4) E850 (Gushue et al.) - Occasional CPU intensive running.

    Plan for week beginning 4/4/94:

Since only E881 and E818 described themselves as being in a
production mode for the coming week, it was felt that no special
restrictions beyond the 6 job per experiment limit were required
for efficient operation. Experiments other than E881 or E818 should
not run more than 1 CPU intensive job at times when PHYSGI is in
heavy use by these production users.

    Other issues:

The operating system of PHYSGI was upgraded to IREX 5.2 over the
weekend. Most, but not all, of the items required to maintain
compatibility with IREX 4 were installed. Version 4 compatibility
is intended as only a very short term solution. All users should
convert their object libraries to 5.2 and otherwise become independent
of IREX 4 as soon as possible. The software for this compatibility
takes up a great deal of disk space and will be deleted in the near
        future.

An IREX 5.2 compatible version of CERN library exists on PHYSGI and
will be locally defined as the "Production" version immediately. The
question of its definition as "Production" for export via remote
mounts requires some consultation with the people responsible for
        systems which mount it.

A problem which results in an E881 job hanging PHYSGI for lack of
resources, may or may not behave the same under IREX 5.2. Some time
Monday night a test of this will be done. Users should be advised
that the system may be unstable during this period.
