FrameMaker and FrameViewer

FrameMaker is a publication-quality document generator with word processing, page layout and graphics capabilities. FrameViewer is a browser of the FrameMaker generated files. The Physics Compute Server is licensed for two concurrent users.

To run FrameMaker/FrameViewer, you should do the followings:

  1. Set up your security so that your workstation or X-terminal will accept the displays from the FrameMaker host - physgi01.

  2. Set your path to include the directory name of the FrameMaker software ( /PrivateDomain/frame/bin ) in your .login file on physgi01.

    set path = ( /PrivateDomain/frame/bin $path )

  3. Set the environment variable DISPLAY to the TCP/IP address of your workstation or X-terminal:

    setenv DISPLAY < tcp/ip_address > :0.0

  4. To invoke FrameMaker, enter:

    maker

After the FrameMaker loading messages, five menu buttons - NEW, OPEN, HELP, INFO, and EXIT - appear on the upper left corner of your screen. Select NEW if you wish to create a new file and OPEN to use any existing files. The output file from NEW and OPEN operations can be saved as a FrameMaker editable file. Or a postscript file can be generated using Print option under File pulldown menu. HELP provides detailed information about the FrameMaker and how to use it. INFO shows the FrameMaker version number, current license holder, copy-rights, etc. Use EXIT to terminate the FrameMaker.

There is an instructional program you can run through to learn the basic features of FrameMaker. Invoke this instructional program by:

    demomaker

FrameViewer can be invoked by entering:

    viewer
