Bunce Notes on the g-2 Ring and Control Room Space Meeting ---------------------------------------------------- Present: Joe Scaduto, Rob Carey, Jim Miller, Eric Hazen, Rich Larsen, Arnie Stillman, Tony Curcio, Wuzheng Meng, Lou Snydstrup, Steve Giron, Ralf Prigl, Dave Kawall, Derek Lowenstein, Dave Zimmerman (chair), me. Ring Building ------------- -We now have a drawing with the 4 quad racks and cable runs and other details. A >3' clear area is shown. The center will be on raised flooring, 1' to 1.5' above the concrete, with cabling underneath. An additional 4 racks are needed in the center for the kicker (1 rack), and 2 for detector pulsing (?), and 1 not yet reserved (possibly traceback). Additional detector racks will need to be located on the back of the detectors. -We need locations, runs for vacuum pumps on drawing for inside ring. Roughing pumps might be moved to outside the ring, but then electrical would need to be provided. -We need to include trolley stuff--pumping, control cables, garage. -We need to include space necessary to install and remove the inflector, including the table that is used for this. -Location of laser splitter needs to be designated. -Power in ring: 2 20 amp circuits are needed from the control room (to maintain one ground--one for traceback, one for general use such as scopes). These have already been provided. Other circuits may be needed in the ring, but not from the control room. The detector group will generate a request for the other circuits. Control Room ------------ -The last detector rack D11 needs to be removed (insufficient access), and added to the front (D0). -Power: generally the power already provided looks adequate. One circuit must be converted to a 2nd 208 circuit for the detector racks, and one circuit needs to be moved from D11 to D0. -The V racks need to be specified. Racks V1-5 are taken by the vacuum group. V6 will be for quad and kicker. (Rich questions whether the quad rack will need a separate circuit to allow the quad pulsers to be disabled when necessary.) V7 and V8 are for beam dynamics and slow control. V9 has AGS signals, beam scalers... V10/11/12 are not presently taken, and circuit vultures are circling. -There will be terminals in the present lunch room for email. -Moving D11 to D0 creates problems for the planned noise wall. It may be that we should move the offline analysis computer to my lounge, and then enclose all the racks with a U-shaped enclosure. This should give enough room in the center to work without noise, and leave a separate quiet environment for data analysis and separate discussions in my lounge. -Joe will need to consider the cooling. Rich suggests using chillers a la E787 (the experiment with the Taj in the C line).
