They are about to commence machining the edge bumps (also called Rose shims). This will take two to three weeks. Lou will get a better time estimate when we deliver the material to the shop. Then we will measure the field for one to two weeks. At that point, we anticipate that we will have achieved our goals of shimming with iron for the first run, and will give up measuring the field in 360 degrees in azimuth until the vacuum chambers and beam tube trolley track are assembled. The pole face windings will be installed during the month of November. The Shimming team will then play with different current distributions. This can be done at just one place in azimuth, ie. we don't have to move the shimming trolley in azimuth for this study. A device to measure the fringe field for the trace-back has been designed. John Benante discussed what the techs will be doing. We have authorization to hire another tech. However, even with another tech, our techs will be saturated with shimming and inflector work (our highest priorities now). Since we can probably measure the fringe field even with the vacuum chamber installed, the tech work for the fringe field measurement device will be done only if there is a break in the other work. The inflector schedule has not changed since the last inflector meeting. Lin discussed the Cryo plan. The Plan B compressor should be installed and working by early January. This will give us additional flexibility and reliablility. The rest of Plan B won't be ready until late spring/ early summer. Yannis presented the Quad plan. They request a slot of time to measure the resonant frequency and cross-calibrate the HV monitors. Actually, this could be done in February, if necessary. However, we will try to accomadate them, if possible. Lou presented the vacuum chamber installation schedule. We should be ready to begin installation in early December. If we are able to keep to this schedule, we will be able to do complete system tests in early February. The project schedule is shown below.
