Minutes of April 1, 1996 E821 Schedule Meeting

    The refrigerator repair and assembly of the storage ring magnet 
are anticipated to be at the point where we can begin the pump-down
and cool-down by the end of this month. The magnet should be cold by
mid-May. We will install a complete quad chamber into the ring while
we are cooling down. This will be the first test of a complete quad
chamber in the magnetic field. The beamline is scheduled to be
completed by the end of this month. We will then tune the beam and
bring it down into the storage ring. Lee Roberts summarized this
activity: 

1. Bring proton beam to V target.

2. Tune secondary beam for pi and mu.

3. Measure pion and muon fluxes upstream of ring.

4. Bring beam into storage ring.

5. Measure pi and mu flash.

Gerry emphasized that we also want measure the stability of our "t=0" 
signal with the beam. We will have to carefully coordinate these 
three activities in May: magnet testing, quad testing, and tuning the
beamline. 

     The main activity this summer will be shimming the magnet and 
the Inflector work. Also during this time we need to bring on the new 
substation. For about one week we will be without LILCO power. The
present substation is very marginal with the beamline and the
refrigerator loads. In fact, there is a slight chance there isn't
enough power to run both the beamline and the refrigerator at the
same time with the present substation. Beginning late October, the
main activity will be installation of the vacuum chambers, etc. and
bringing on the plan B refrigerator. The FY97 run is presently
scheduled to begin in January, 1997. The schedule is summarized

    Dave Zimmermann discussed space and power in the ring and control 
room. He is setting up a Space and Power meeting for April 12. Yannis 
and Lou reviewed the muon vacuum chamber and quad schedules which
