Running DAQ

Running the e852 DAQ to collect e891 data

DAQ is run on mpsdaq.ags.bnl.gov, under the e891 account. Any xterminal, anywhere, can be used to run and control DAQ; however, the xterminal in the MPS control room, on the central desk, is the only one that should be used to run and control DAQ during a data-taking period, when real beam is coming down the line.

There are several starting points in running DAQ. These are listed in order of likelihood of occurance. Select the one that most closely resembles your current condition:

Normal Session -- What should be running in a normal session
This explains all the normal DAQ-operator applications involved in monitoring DAQ, taking data and recording it on tape.

Normal Control -- Controlling DAQ from an existing session
This explains how to begin and end runs, and to change tapes.

Normal Restart -- Restarting DAQ from an existing session
This explains how to restart DAQ, such as would be done after a hardware repair, hardware change, or following a mysterious DAQ crash (ie, before the experts are bothered).

Cold Start -- Starting DAQ from a freshly rebooted machine
This explains how to start a normal session when there is no current DAQ session logged in, or if the DAQ session appears to be missing some applications.
