On-line running

On-line Running

Running on physgi01

To run the E891 on-line program from one of the X-terminals at the MPS, do the following:

  1. Log into mpsdaq as mps1
  2. rlogin e891@physgi01.phy (no password necessary from mps1 in mpsdaq).
  3. setenv DISPLAY yourxterminaladdress:0.0
  4. onlx_gra
  5. At the prompt type: com,fast.com
This should get you started. To find what commands are available at any command level type opt. To get verbose help type help.

The working area on physgi01 is /scratch10/e891/wrk. The latest executable will be there and on /usr1/people/e891/wrk to make it accessible to mpsdaq. The parameter files will be on /usr1/people/e891/par. The files on physgi01.phy are by definition the latest files and supersede those on any other computers. If you are running on any other computer than physgi01, then it is up to you to make sure you have the latest versions.

Running on mpsdaq

To run on mpsdaq skip steps 2 and maybe 3 if DISPLAY is properly set. There is no Mosaic available on mpsdaq, so you will not get the verbose help. The mpsdaq computer is our backup on-line computer when physgi01 is unavailable or the network is impossible. The latest executable will be in /usr/people/mps/bin. Do not replace the executable when the program is running or you will crash it. The latest parameter files will be in /usr/people/mps/par.

How to load up a new executable

To load up a new on-line executable on physgi01.phy make sure that your directory is /scratch10/e891/wrk. Then type:

Do not reload the program while the on-line is running on physgi01 or you will crash the program.

General advice

If you need help about running the DAQ system click here

Do not put any large data files on the mpsdaq disks. There is not that much space available. We have borrowed temporarily for the run a 2 Gbyte disk called /share/vega.usr1. The mps1 directory is writeable by the mps group. That means your group id has to be mps in order for you to write on it.

The /usr1 disk is mounted on mpsdaq, so when physgi01 is up any files can be copied to the mpsdaq disks (no ftp is necessary).
