The following is a list of trouble shooting hints and may change depending
on the sort of problems we encounter as the run goes on.
- The DAQ hangs and you have no clue what is going on:
Just start from scratch. Software wise you will delete EVERYTHING that
has been present and you start from the very beginning. If the system
still hangs then the source of the problem is hardware.
- The DAQ does not respond immediately to your commands:
Be patient. Some of the commands like begin run, end run involve a lot
of coordination between processes. We included timeout values that are
rather large (up to 2-3 minutes), so it is always wise to wait a few
minutes before you restart. In particular commands to the tape drives
always involves quite some time (finishing the run by writing all the events
from the SGI buffer on to tape), loading tape drives, closing tape drives etc....)
- Command ``SSP init'' gives you an error status
Try two or three times. If the error then still persists, you might consider
toggling the reset switch on the SSP's. If this still doesn't help
one can try toggleing the power on the SSP crates as a ``lender of the last
resort).
- Suddenly there are no more triggers...
Use Snoopy in order to encourage the SSP's to take more data.
1. Open a window on ku7
2. type snoopy
3. Enter SSP Address in Hex (CR = 0) : 801
4. Command : edit
*go
