Overview

LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) is a proposed standard for hard disk encryption. There are a number of Linux implementations. Please see http://luks.endorphin.org/about for more information.

Pros and Cons

Pros (from the LUKS site):

  • compatiblity via standardization,
  • secure against low entropy attacks,
  • support for multiple keys,
  • effective passphrase revocation,
  • free
