Container Based Encryption

Container Based Encryption describes software that encrypts less than a full disk. It acts at either the partition, directory or file level.

Pros and Cons of Container Based Encryption

Pros:

  • Only encrypt what you want, no performance degradation due to encrypting unimportant data.
  • Some will allow backup of encrypted data.

Cons:

  • The user must consciously place important files into the encrypted container..
